The BRICS TV RSA commemorated 50 years since June 16, 1976, with a movie screening at the Chapel. The presence, reflections, and engagement made this event powerful. For 50 years, since June 16, 1976, the voices of those on the frontline have shaped who we are. The presence, your attention, and your reflections in the room made the screening more than a film. It became remembrance.

It was a special day at the Castle of Good Hope as we came together to celebrate our history, unity, and the power of the next generation. We were delighted to welcome Community Kids Pot from Malmesbury and Philippi, as well as a group from Balls Not Guns in Westbank. The young performers captivated the audience with energetic performances, including the iconic dance routines from Sarafina! paying tribute to the spirit and resilience of the youth of 1976.

Visitors were also entertained by the smooth sounds of jazz performed by Elise Fernandes and her group, creating a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the day.

Along the Castle's veranda, local community vendors showcased their handmade products and businesses. We invited these entrepreneurs to exhibit their work to help expand their businesses, connect with new customers, and take advantage of the opportunities presented by the many local and international tourists who visit the Castle

To show our appreciation, refreshments, including food and cold drinks, were served to all attendees. Adding to the spirit of generosity, Mr Higgins, founder and curator of the Cape Heritage Museum, kindly provided complimentary soup for the children, which was especially enjoyed on the chilly day. The celebration was a wonderful reminder of the importance of preserving our heritage, supporting local communities, and investing in the future through our youth.

A Moment of Remembrance at the Castle of Good Hope

The Castle of Good Hope had the honour of welcoming Russian volunteers for a commemorative gathering to pay tribute to fallen soldiers. As part of the ceremony, candles were lit to help keep the Eternal Flame alive—a powerful symbol of remembrance that honours those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Eternal Flame serves as a lasting reminder of their courage and dedication, ensuring that their stories continue to be remembered by future generations. The light of the flame represents respect, reflection, and the importance of preserving history.

The gathering provided an opportunity for all in attendance to pause, reflect, and honour the legacy of those who gave their lives in service. The Castle of Good Hope remains committed to preserving and sharing history, providing a meaningful space where acts of remembrance continue to inspire present and future generations.
